Ancelotti expects English clubs to contend in Champions League

Bayern Munich coach Carlo Ancelotti expects the Champions League to be even tougher this season due to the return of some big English clubs.

Manchester United and Chelsea are back in Europe s top club competition, and they could be joined by Liverpool.

While the last English club to win the Champions League was Chelsea in 2012, Ancelotti believes the return of the heavyweights is sure to make it tougher.

The Champions League this year will be more competitive because there are some really important English teams in the competition, the Italian said on Monday.

United, City, Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool – I think, and I hope, for Jurgen [Klopp, Liverpool manager] to win qualification.

The Champions League will surely be more competitive and mo…

Salah: Inter defeat will give ´overconfident´ Liverpool a push

Mohamed Salah says Liverpool s 1-0 loss to Inter will act as a wake-up call after the Reds were made to work hard for their place in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Leading 2-0 from the first leg thanks to late goals from Roberto Firmino and Salah, the Reds looked comfortable for the opening hour of Tuesday s second leg at Anfield.

However, Lautaro Martinez s first goal in the competition since November 2020 – a superb swerving shot from 20 yards – gave Inter serious hope of at least forcing extra time.

Alexis Sanchez s red card 107 seconds later proved damaging, though, as Inter failed to create any further clear-cut opportunities against their Premier League opponents.

The defeat is Liverpool s first at Anfield in all competitions since March 7…

Mourinho: Tottenham are not fighting for the title

Jose Mourinho insists Tottenham cannot be expected to challenge for the Premier League title in his first full campaign in charge despite sitting top of the table.

Spurs produced a clinical display to see off Manchester City 2-0 on Saturday thanks to a goal in each half from Son Heung-min and substitute Giovani Lo Celso.

They have won four games in a row in the top flight, are seven without defeat and will finish a day at the summit of the league for the first time since August 2014.

But Mourinho, who celebrated one year in charge on Friday, does not believe his side can realistically compete for the title.

It feels good [to be top], but maybe tomorrow we are second again and honestly that would not be a problem for me, I am just happy with the evolutio…

02-05-2010 Liverpool Vs Chelsea

This clash is really Liverpool s last chance to stake a claim for Champions league football this year, but they will have their work cut out against a Chelsea side who really need to win this match to maintain their push for the premier league title.

Liverpool s chances in this match will also be hampered by the fact that they will have played three days earlier in the second leg of their Europa League semi final second leg match against Athletico Madrid. Benitez also has real selection problems up front with Torres ruled out, and Ngog and Kuyt both doubtful for the games ahead. One piece of fortune for the Anfield outfit is the return to form of Steven Gerrard. After riding serious allegations about his personal life in recent weeks, Gerrard has come out the other side firing …

Barry Bonds Gets Intentionally Walked Four Times in a Game: This Day in Sports History

data-mm-id=”_f4zsiytwb”>Barry Bonds was feared like few hitters in baseball history during his prime slugging years in the early-to-mid-2000s. Nothing proved that more when, on May 1st, 2004, Bonds set an MLB record when he was intentionally walked four times in one game. The Giants were playing the Marlins at home. Bonds was in the early stages of his second consecutive MVP season; about a month into the season, he was batting .463 with a 1.111 slugging percentage. He was, without a doubt, the most feared hitter in baseball. Miami treated him as such by choosing to walk him four times in five at-bats. No one has yet to top that number in one game to this day. We'll never see teams treat any other individual player like they did Bonds again. He holds just about every record for wa…
