Premier League rivals Manchester United and Liverpool will lock horns with each other in the FA Cup this weekend. The quarter-final tie between Erik ten Hag’s side and Jurgen Klopp’s team will be held at Old Trafford and is scheduled to kick off at 3:30 pm UK time on Sunday.

Manchester United

Manchester United are arguably the biggest club in the world and have spent millions on players in recent years, but they are not as competitive as Liverpool, Manchester City or even Arsenal. The Red Devils have not won the Premier League since the Sir Alex Ferguson era and are not competent enough at the moment to even challenge for the league.

Erik ten Hag’s side are sixth in the Premier League table at the moment with 47 points from 28 matches. United are as many as eight points behind Aston Villa in fourth. It is hard to see them finish in the UEFA Champions League places in the league table.

United will head into the FA Cup tie against Liverpool on the back of a 2-0 win against Everton at Old Trafford in the Premier League. It came after a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Manchester City away from home at the Etihad Stadium in the league which followed a 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest away from home at the City Ground in the FA Cup.

Team News:

Manchester United could have Aaron Wan-Bissaka back in action against Liverpool. The defender has resumed training and could be available. Mason Mount, who joined the Red Devils from Premier League rivals Chelsea in the summer of 2023, is also back in training as well. Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, though, will miss the tie due to injury problems. Harry Maguire and Rasmus Hojlund could be back.

Liverpool

Unlike Manchester United, Liverpool are doing extremely well. Under manager Jurgen Klopp, the Reds have won the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League. The Merseyside club have already clinched the Carabao Cup this season, and in Klopp’s final season as the manager, the team will be keen on winning the Premier League, the UEFA Europa League and the FA Cup.

Liverpool are second in the Premier League table at the moment with 64 points from 28 matches. The Reds are level on points with leaders Arsenal and are a point ahead of third-placed and defending champions Manchester City. The Merseyside club have lost just two league games all season.

Liverpool played out a 1-1 draw with Manchester City at Anfield in the Premier League last weekend. It came after a 5-1 victory over Sparta Prague away from home in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League Round of 16 tie. The second leg will be held at Anfield on Thursday.

Team News:

Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah returned to action for Liverpool after an injury layoff against Manchester City at Anfield in the Premier League last weekend. It is very likely that manager Jurgen Klopp will include Salah in the starting lineup against Manchester United. Joel Matip, Alisson, Diogo Jota, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Curtis Jones, Ryan Gravenberch, Stefan Bajcetic and Thiago all will miss the tie, but Ibrahima Konate could feature.

Key Factors to Consider
Manchester United have scored 39 goals in 28 Premier League games this season.
Liverpool have lost just 2 Premier League matches all season.
Mohamed Salah has scored 19 goals and given 9 assists in 30 matches for Liverpool so far this season.
Rasmus Hojlund has scored 13 goals and given 2 assists in 30 games for Manchester United so far this campaign.
Darwin Nunez has scored 16 goals and provided 11 assists in 40 matches for Liverpool so far this season.
Conclusion

Manchester United will be determined to win against Liverpool. Playing at home will give them an advantage, and Erik ten Hag’s side will also want the fans something to cheer about. Liverpool, though, are in better form and have the better team. It is very likely that Jurgen Klopp’s side will win at Old Trafford.
